The telemedicine centre at SKIMS was established by Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO)  in the year 2003 on the recommendations of standing committee of the Parliament (India).            Through this centre the SKIMS is connected to all the reputed hospitals of the country like AIIMS, New Delhi, PGI, Chandigarh, Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, CRMC, Chennai etc. The facility has also been created at Govt. Medical College Srinagar/Jammu and some district hospitals of the State enabling these hospitals to get connected with each other and the reputed hospitals of the country. Infact SKIMS Telemedicine Centre is the hub of J&K Telemedicine Project consisting of 12 such centres spread across the State at locations like Govt. ………

The centre has provided valuable and important services in the normal and disaster times (the services provided by SKIMS Telemedicine Centre during earth quake of Oct, 2005 was appreciated by former President of India Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam)

The J&K Telemedicine Project with SKIMS as its Hub was declared as No. 2 in the country in the National Users Meet held at Space Application Centre, Ahamadabad on 04-05 May, 2007 in respect of utilization.  (click here to see Utilization Report 2007)

On 8/8/2003 Prof. Showkat Zarger HOD Gastroenterology sent 42 slides to Medical faculty Apollo Hospital Delhi and delivered a lecture on Heptobilliary Ascariasis.

On 15th Aug. 2003 Dr Abdul Rashid from Neuro Surgery delivered a lecture on Head Injury and its management to the doctors of Kathua Hospital in the Presence of Hon’ble Health Minister J&K State Mr. Lal Singh Chowdry.

On 9/10/2003 Hon’ble Deputy Health Minister of the State visited to this centre and had a Video Conferencing session with AIIMS Delhi.

On 9/1/2004 in the Inaugural function of Telemedicine Centre of SMHS Hospital Srinagar. Hon’ble Health Minister of the State had a Video Conferencing session with the Director Prof. S. Jalal.

On 20/2/2004 Hon’ble Chief Minister of J & K State Mr Mufti Mohd Sayed visited this Lab and had a Video Conferencing session with the reputed migrant Doctors working at Apollo Hospital Delhi. Another dignities who attended this function were Hon’ble Minister for Health and Medical Education, Deputy Minister for Health and Medical Education.

On 9/9/2004 an EMC programme was conducted between our Centre and Regional Cancer Centre Kerala. The Topic was Professional hazards in Nursing.

On 14/9/2004 faculty of Nursing College of SKIMS attended a panel discussion on Nursing Management of Patients undergoing for Chemotherapy, with the faculty of Nursing College of Regional Cancer Centre Kerala.
