DEPARTMENT OF CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY

The Department located within the SKIMS Hospital, incorporates Department of Pharmacology at its Medical College and provides integrated patient case, teaching, training and research. It provides super specialty referral services to in- and out patients of General Medicine, Neurology, Nephrology, Cardiology, Medical Oncology, Neurosurgery, Psychiatry, Accident & Emergency, Intensive Case Units and Neonatology which include Monitoring of Drug Therapies and Toxicities of conventional AEDs (phenytoin, carbamazepine, valproaic acid, phenobarbitone), digoxin, therophylline, cyclosporine, methotrexate and lithium by pharmacokinetic / dynamic methods. Spirometry is provided for supplementing diagnosis, bronchodilator preference and follow up of patients. The Development of Clinic Toxicology Unit in the Department is in progress.

The Department is designated as one of the Centers under Pharmacovigillance Programme of India for drug safety evaluation. The programme is run for inpatients and outpatients.

The Department runs OPD referral for PK/PD evaluation of out patients referred for TDM, Pharmacovigillance and Spirometry. Rational Drug Use Audit, Normative values of population Cholinesterase activity and other research cohorts are also assessed at OPD.

The teaching and training activities include Ph.D Clinical Pharmacology, MBBS, B. Sc (MLT), B. Sc Nursing.
