Srinagar 10/3/2016: Symposium on “kidney diseases in children” was organized by the Department of Nephrology, SKIMS to commemorate World Kidney Day here today at SKIMS auditorium. The students from Govt. Boys Higher Secondary School, Govt. Girls higher secondary school , Green Valley Educational Institute & Kashmir Harvard School gave speech on various aspects of kidney diseases in children followed by question answer session.

On the onset of program Associate Professor Dr. Muzaffar Wani discussed the significance of World Kidney day and basic functions of kidney.

Director SKIMS Dr. Showkat Zargar & Dean Medical Faculty Dr. Gul Javid encouraged the children to take care of their kidneys right from childhood to ensure healthy life ahead. The stress was laid on healthy life style which include regular exercises, keeping  weight in check, monitoring blood pressure regularly, having adequate fluid and most importantly restrain from smoking and self-medication.

On the occasion Director SKIMS felicitated Khanday Showkat 11 Yrs. old who has undergone successful kidney transplant about four years back at SKIMS. The young boy was jubilant and thanked doctors for their support and treatment. Director SKIMS also felicitated students who participated in the symposium.

The World Kidney Day is significant as Kashmir is witnessing high rise in kidney diseases. This Year the theme is “Kidney diseases in Children-Act Early to Prevent It”, said Dr. Khurshid Bhanday Prof. dept. of Nephrology SKIMS & organizing secretary of the event.
