Apropos  to a report in daily Excelsior on shortage of fogging solutions. SKIMS is in obligation to keep the public rightly informed on the patient care services.
The Institution has a robust mechanism of infection control.  Medical Superintendent is looking after its chairman while as HOD Microbiology is the  vice chairman. The members of the  expert committee include faculty from microbiology, Hospital Administration, HOD's of Surgery, Medicine, Anesthesiology, infection disease unit of General medicine officer Incharge of Nursing Administration .
Infection surveillance is being conducted on a regular basis which is being monitored and conducted by nurses with expertise in  infection control. Department of Microbiology  takes samples regularly from various patient care areas and high risk areas for any evidence of growth of unwanted organisms. Infection Control Department regularly does disinfection of patient care areas as per a schedule which is circulated in advance. Emergency disinfection is also carried out if there is any evidence of infection. A similar procedure has been adopted for the Neonatology ward also.
 Further it bears mention that stocks of disinfection solution not out of stock and disinfection of neonatology ward has been carried out by use of Quatenary Ammonium compound and sodium hypochlorite solution. Further more procurement as per rules has also been done for both fogging solution and disinfectant solution and is underway.
