Diet is fundamental to patient care. The Department of Dietetics & Therapeutics provides the highest level of care to its patients through providing standard nutritional services. It addresses complex nutritional & health issues to enhance the quality of life for people & communities. The Department is progressive & fully committed to provide the highest quality nutritional care, leading-edge nutritional practice, food service & education. The Department has various units which cater to students, staff members & patient attendants through well planned & organized catering services. The Department was established in 1982 & is one of the main Supportive Service Departments of the Hospital.

DEPARTMENT OF DIETETICS & THERAPEUTICS
DEPARTMENTAL PROFILE The Department has a manpower of 125. The Senior Managerial & Supervisory Staff includes:
OBJECTIVES The Dietetics Department aims to provide a comprehensive Nutrition & Dietetic service to its patients as per their requirements. The main objectives of the Department are inpatient food service, diet counseling of indoor & outdoor patients & teaching PG students from various areas.
PATIENT CATERING Hospital meals are considered as an essential constituent to facilitate recovery & improve patient satisfaction regarding the overall treatment experience. The Dietitians of the Department help patients achieve health goals by analyzing their physical conditions & other health concerns. They create nutrition plans that meet the individual needs and dietary preferences, plan & coordinate the preparation, distribution & evaluation of patient meals besides developing & directing the implementation of menus, etc. Professionally trained Cooks do the mass production & cooking of healthy meals hygienically & service staff renders hygienic & in time service to inpatients. The whole D&T Department is consciously involved to ensure that prescribed diets are given to the respective patients. The Department on an average caters to more than 700 patients every day. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the whole staff of the Department relentlessly worked in challenging situations & ensured to serve hygienically prepared nutritious diet to the COVID-19 patients as well as to the Staff working in areas designated for COVID-19 patients.
NUTRITION & DIET THERAPY CONSULTATION Besides serving nutritious diet to inpatients, the Dietitians of the Department provide nutrition consultation to both inpatients & out-patients of the Hospital.
ACADEMICS The Department is recognized to impart six (06) weeks of Dietetics internship to M.Sc. Dietetics & Clinical Nutrition students from Kashmir University & three (03) months internship to M.Sc. DFSM students from IGNOU. Also, theory & practical classes of BSc Nursing are being taken by the faculty of the department. In addition to this, the Department also imparts six (06) months RD internship to students desirous of appearing in the Registered Dietitian examination.
COMMERCIAL CATERING The D&T Department through its commercial catering units like Staff Canteen & Patient Attendant Canteen caters to Hospital staff and Patient attendants respectively. |
